Tracking Swine Flu Cases Worldwide: Interactive Infographic

Over at Flowing Data, Nathan shares a few interesting graphics about the topic-du-jour… Swine Flu.

Health officials continue to report mild cases of swine flu throughout the United States and worldwide. The number of deaths in Mexico that officials suspect to have been caused by the flu is 159. The death of a child in Texas, reported on Wednesday, was the first one attributed to the flu outside of Mexico.

Germany confirmed its first case of swine flu, bringing the number of countries with confirmed cases to eight.

Tuesday, April 28

Canada confirmed five additional cases — one more in British Columbia and four in Ontario — bringing the total to 13. The number of confirmed cases in New York rose to 45. Israel reported two cases of swine flu. New Zealand confirmed at least 11 cases. Spain reported its second confirmed case in the eastern province of Valencia. There have been no deaths outside Mexico.
In the U.S., state and federal officials intensified their response to the swine flu outbreak, with President Obama asking Congress for $1.5 billion in supplemental funding.

Health officials are investigating a never-before-seen form of the flu that combines pig, bird and human viruses and which has infected seven people in California and Texas. The cases are a growing medical mystery because it’s unclear how they caught the virus.
